If your school already has a club and you want to join SAGA skip to step 5.
Step 1:
Find a teacher or staff member who will be your group sponsor.
Step 2:
Decide on a date and time for your first meeting. Try and find a time when many students will be able to join you, like during lunch or after school.
Step 3:
Advertise for your club by talking to friends and hanging posters in your school. If there are morning announcements or if there is a morning meeting, advertise your group at one of these. You will want to make your club as accessible to students as possible to maximize your turnout. The more people who know about it, the better!
Hint: More students are likely to come if the first meeting has free vegetarian and vegan treats. Click here for dessert recipes and here for great snack recipes.
Step 4:
The first order of business should be to give an introduction to the goals of an animal welfare club and how becoming part of the SAGA network can help you achieve those goals. Tell the other students about activities you would like to do and ask for input on what issues they think are important. Click here to see activity suggestions or go to our home page to see our current Take Actions.
Step 5:
Decide on a day to meet when the most students are available. Take down everyone's email address, phone number and information so you can easily contact them for future meetings.
Step 6:
Give everyone the website for SAGA and tell them to register on the site so your club is eligible for grants and individuals can enter contests and chat in the forum with students from all over the country!
Congratulations on starting your own animal welfare club!
